Marialuisa Volta


M. Volta is a professor of Control Systems with the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Brescia (IT) where she coordinates the research team on “Integrated Assessment Modeling”.

M. Volta received the Laurea degree in Electrical Engineering (Politecnico di Milano) and the Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering (University of Brescia), discussing a thesis about air quality modeling and planning.

Her research interests relate to non-linear systems analysis, control systems design; environmental systems modeling and control, decision models, Decision Support Systems, Integrated Assessment Modeling

In these fields she has published 170 papers, book chapters, books.


She coordinated EU and national projects developing methodologies and tools for air quality control, involving research institutes, SMEs and decision-makers.


She was member of the expert panel on Air Quality (European Court of Auditors, 2017), FP7 project reviewer (EC DG-RTD, 2014-2016), national delegate at UNECE-CLTAP TFIAM (2006-2012).


M. Volta serves as vice-chair of the IFAC TC8.3 "Modelling and control of Environmental Systems" (from 2015). 


M. Volta is member of the Research Team (from 2016), member of  Scientific board of B+ Labnet (Laboratory for environmental monitoring and control (from 2015), Faculty member of the Doctoral Committee in Technology for Health (from 2010) at the University of Brescia.

She has served on the Task Force Health&Wealth for Strategic programme (2013-2014), the Doctoral Committee in Computer Science, Engineering and Control Systems (2005-2012), the Research Board (2001-2012), the Faculty Senate (2004-2005) of the University of Brescia.
